Coming in Only Two Weeks: Major North #1

Well, that was fast! Or it felt like it from a fan's perspective, anyway!

Major North was first mentioned here in mid-January as a result of stumbling into a sketch of the character on my Twitter timeline, as shared by Sam Noir. Noir explained at the time that North was his (and artist Christopher Yao's) contribution to the second volume of Toronto Comics, which was released in May.

Turned out that there was more in the works involving this character than was immediately obvious. Roughly a month after Toronto Comics's release, the Major gets a solo book.

June 20th: Major North #0... debuting tomorrow at Kids Read Comics in Ann Arbor, Michigan! In two weeks it will make it's Canadian debut at Montreal Comic Con. That is some awesome cover by Christopher Yao.

The sketch below was shared by Sam Noir on Twitter on January 13th.

The art is by Christopher Yao. Some of Christopher's work was posted here before; he's been involved with the designs for several Heroes of The North characters, such as Yellow Knife below, for an example.

So what's the story here? I contacted Sam to ask for permission to post the sketch. He was kind enough to respond quickly (and in the affirmative, obviously) but also to make me aware that the character will soon be included in the second volume of Toronto Comics Anthology.

As you can see from the Toronto Comics Anthology website, the first volume was released last year and is available in both print and digital format. The second will be released, appropriately enough, at the Toronto Comics Art Festival on May 9th and 10th.

As for Major North's story? This is the teaser:

Toronto has been transformed into a fascist state... six strangers are imprisoned. Only one is a superhero.

Right on. Let's see what Major North brings to the table.
